Seetha Payanam, directed by Action King Arjun and starring Niranjan and Aishwarya Arjun as the lead pair, is produced under the Shri Ram Films International banner. With this film, Aishwarya Arjun makes her debut as a heroine. Action Prince Dhruva Sarja also plays a key role. The film releases on February 14. As part of the promotions, Arjun Sarja interacted with the media.
*What was the strategy behind releasing Seetha Payanam across four languages?*
Earlier, I used to make films in two or three languages. But this story carries a universal concept. No matter the language, people can relate to it. It’s a feel-good subject that works everywhere. That’s why I decided to release it in four languages.
*Did producing a film with your own daughter affect the budget planning?*
When I work with my family, I have complete control over the budget. I know exactly where to spend and how much to spend. That gives me a high level of comfort.
*Why did you choose Telugu to introduce your daughter?*
The film industry has given me so much. Telugu audiences have always shown me immense love. So, I wanted to launch Aishwarya here first.
*Was another hero initially considered? Did that change the story?*
Yes. I had the story ready and we initially considered Vishwak Sen. Sometimes things don’t go as planned. But we didn’t change even a single scene in the script. Niranjan stepped in for that role. We have no issues with Vishwak Sen; everything is settled. Life is a circle- there are no grudges. If things align, we might work together again.
*Usually, star sons are launched. You are launching your daughter. Why?*
Not just sons- daughters are heirs too. We shouldn’t discriminate. We should support their interests. My daughter loves acting, so I brought her into films.
*What kind of elements does Seetha Payanam have?*
It’s a mature story. It’s not just about love- there are many emotions and layers in it. Audiences will understand that when they watch it. Loving your family and country is also a form of patriotism.
*How important is action in this film?*
There are action sequences that mass audiences will enjoy, but they’re part of the story- not forced. Anup Rubens has given excellent songs and background score; they elevate the film.
*What roles do you still want to explore as an actor?*
I’ve always wanted to do all kinds of roles. Abhimanyudu brought me great appreciation. Playing a villain or a comedian is wonderful. I want to prove myself in every angle. My next film will be an out-and-out action movie.
*What did the censor board say after watching the film?*
They were very emotional. They appreciated me a lot after coming out. They passed the film with a clean ‘U’ certificate without a single cut.
*How did the idea of Seetha Payanam originate?*
I got this idea 13 years ago. It stayed in my mind all these years. I even shared the point with my daughter back then. Eventually, I developed it fully. I wanted to introduce her with such a meaningful story.
*Tell us about the hero and heroine’s roles.*
These roles were not written just for dance or glamour. Every character has depth and purpose. There’s huge scope for performance. Audiences will talk about Aishwarya and Niranjan’s roles after watching the film. We’ve shown a father–daughter relationship beautifully. I’m presenting an emotion never seen before.
*Which is more comfortable for you—acting or directing?*
I have five or six scripts ready. Right now, I prefer directing over acting. My next project is a mass action film—no love story, no songs. Pure action, and I’ll play a role suitable for my age.
*Is Hanuman Junction 2 possible?*
I also want to make Hanuman Junction 2. Just yesterday I spoke with Jagapathi Babu, and he said the same. But we need a good story. If someone brings the right script, I’ll produce and direct it myself.
*Which of your old films would you like to re-release?*
Gentleman. That film is still relevant today. It fits current situations too. So I want to re-release Gentleman.
*Power Star Pawan Kalyan attended the film’s launch. How was that experience?*
I met Pawan Kalyan only a few times. But when I requested him to attend the pooja ceremony, he agreed immediately. He said he’d stay for five minutes but ended up talking with me for three hours. He is extremely honest. It’s great to have such a politician. My family has liked him since Khushi. At the event, he told me, “We are here for you.”
*Will you enter politics?*
I don’t have much understanding of politics, and it doesn’t suit me. I’m happy acting and directing right now (laughs). I do have the intention to do good for people—but politics is a different path altogether.
*Finally, what would you like to say about Seetha Payanam?*
Seetha Payanam is made for all sections of the audience- from Gen Z to elders. It’s a film the whole family can watch together in theatres.
