BJP MLA Eatala Rajender held talks with former minister A. Chandrashekhar amid speculations of the latter’s potential switch to the Congress party. Rajender, who was recently appointed as the chairman of BJP’s election management committee for Telangana, visited Chandrashekhar’s residence to advise him against making any hasty decisions.
Chandrashekhar expressed his concerns to Rajender about the problems he faced within the party. He voiced his disappointment over not being given any position despite his two-and-a-half years of association with the BJP. Rajender, highlighting their shared history of participation in the Telangana movement, emphasized that they have a common agenda and would collaborate to remove Chief Minister KCR from power. Both leaders discussed strategies to strengthen the party in the state.
Responding to Chandrashekhar’s absence from the recent public meeting addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Warangal, Rajender clarified that it was a locally organized event. Chandrashekhar had previously switched his political affiliations multiple times, having been elected as an MLA from the Vikarabad constituency on different party tickets.
He served as a minister in the Congress-led coalition government in united Andhra Pradesh before joining the Congress party. In 2021, he left the Congress to join the BJP. This meeting between Eatala Rajender and Chandrashekhar comes amidst a backdrop of dissent within the BJP, with several leaders reportedly considering joining the Congress. Rajender has been entrusted with the responsibility of persuading dissident leaders to stay within the party, as well as reinforcing its strength in Telangana.
