Story:

Set in a remote village, Seenaiah (Poo Ramu) resides with his grandson Ganesh (Deepan) and their pet goat, Karrodu. Ganesh desires a new Deepavali dress, and though Seenaiah promises to make it happen, acquiring the necessary funds proves challenging. To fulfill his grandson’s dream, Seenaiah makes a tough decision. Meanwhile, butcher Veerasaamy (Kaali Venkat) requires a goat to open his butcher shop but faces obstacles due to financial constraints. What unfolds next? Did Seenaiah manage to buy Ganesh a new dress? Did Veerasaamy find a goat? The movie provides the answers.

Plus Points:

The simple yet heartwarming storyline, particularly in the climax.

Poo Ramu (late) delivers a standout performance as the grandfather, especially in emotionally charged scenes.

Kaali Venkat successfully embodies the character of Veerasaamy, delivering a commendable performance.

Other cast members, including Master Deepan, deliver natural performances, showcasing dedication towards the film.

The music, especially during emotional sequences, adds significant emotional depth to the movie.

Minus Points:

While the story is heartwarming, it grapples with pacing issues.

Director Ra Venkat’s slow narration, especially in the first half, hinders the overall flow, impacting the film’s performance.

The slow narration affects the film’s overall engagement, and the runtime is longer than necessary.

Technical Aspects:

Director Ra Venkat aims for a realistic storytelling approach, but attention to pacing could be improved.

The music, skillfully handled by Theeson, stands out as a highlight, uplifting the movie at every opportunity.

Cinematography by M Jayaprakash is satisfactory, but editing, especially in the first half, requires refinement.

Commendable production values effectively capture the rustic ambiance of the village.

Verdict:

“Deepavali” is a slow-paced emotional drama with commendable performances and a positive message. However, it is hindered by sluggish narration and a longer runtime. Considering alternative entertainment options may be a better choice for this weekend.
