Tollywood star Bellamkonda Sreenivas ventured into Bollywood with the remake of “Chatrapathi.” Helmed by VV Vinayak, the remake failed to capture the same magic as the original and fell short of impressing the Northern audience. Despite a disappointing performance in theaters, the movie is now making its way to the OTT platform. Starting from midnight today, August 18, “Chhatrapati” will be available for streaming on Zee5.
VV Vinayak marked his Bollywood debut as a director with this remake. However, the film, which was produced with a budget of around Rs 25 crore, could only gross less than Rs 5 crore, resulting in substantial losses for the producers. Bellamkonda Sreenivas’s acting and the lackluster narration received significant criticism from the Bollywood audience, who found it to be outdated.
Nushrat Bharucha played the female lead alongside Bellamkonda Sreenivas in this remake. Capitalizing on his popularity from dubbed films on YouTube, Bellamkonda Sreenivas aimed for success in the Hindi market with the “Chatrapathi” remake. The film hit theaters on May 12, accompanied by extensive promotional efforts by Bellamkonda Sreenivas in Bollywood, unfortunately without much impact.
The original Telugu version of “Chatrapathi” was directed by SS Rajamouli and was released back in 2005, featuring Prabhas in the lead role. The Telugu version proved highly successful, raking in double profits for its producers and becoming a milestone in Prabhas’s career. Rajamouli’s direction played a pivotal role in establishing Prabhas’s mass hero image through “Chatrapathi.”
