Swapna Cinemas has consistently pushed for freshness in storytelling by backing distinctive narratives, assembling the right creative teams, and making bold casting choices. Their latest venture, Champion, a period sports drama presented by Zee Studios, is a collaborative effort with Anandi Art Creations and Concept Films. The film marks a significant reintroduction of young actor Roshan, while Malayalam sensation Anaswara Rajan steps into Telugu cinema for the first time. National Award–winning filmmaker Pradeep Advaitham helms this ambitious project.
In an exciting development, the makers announced the comeback of Nandamuri Kalyan Chakravarthy, who charmed audiences in the 80s before taking a long hiatus following his special role in Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Lankeswarudu. After a 35-year gap, he is set to grace the screen again. Swapna Cinemas had been attempting to bring him onboard since Yevade Subrahmanyam, but the veteran actor kept turning down offers. It was the script of Champion, and the depth of his role, that finally convinced him to return.
Kalyan Chakravarthy will be seen as Raji Reddy, a character rooted in realism and crucial to the narrative. His presence is expected to add gravitas and bring a new dimension to the film’s emotional and dramatic landscape.
The first-look poster showcases him in an intense, weathered avatar. With greyed hair, a stern expression, and a dignified aged appearance, he stands against a vibrant celebratory backdrop- hinting at a pivotal moment within the story.
The musical promotions started recently with the release of the first single, Gira Gira Gingiraagirey, composed by Mickey J Meyer. Ram Miriyala’s energetic folk rendition has already struck a chord with listeners. The fresh pairing of Roshan and Anaswara Rajan charmed viewers with their youthful vibrance and delightful on-screen chemistry.
Following the strong response to both the song and the earlier released glimpse, anticipation is now building for the next phase of promotions.
On the technical front, production designer Thota Tharani meticulously recreates the pre-Independence era with stunning authenticity, while cinematographer R. Madhie elevates the narrative through immersive visuals and striking colour palettes. The editing is crafted by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.
Champion is set for a grand theatrical release this Christmas, on December 25th.
