Prabhas’ Adipurush has been a box-office sensation, creating a frenzy during its initial release, particularly in the first weekend. The movie’s makers proudly proclaimed a staggering global collection of Rs 450 Crores in just 10 days. However, the ground reality reveals that Adipurush has now lost much of its box-office steam, with closing collections estimated at around Rs 470 Crores. Even before its theatrical release, the film struck a lucrative deal with Amazon Prime Video for Rs 250 Crores.
Initially slated for streaming on OTT platforms from September, recent events indicate that Adipurush might make its way to digital platforms sooner than expected. The film’s theatrical run is nearing its end, and the appearance of a high-definition copy in Tamil language on torrent sites has raised concerns. The movie’s other language versions may follow suit shortly.
Given the substantial sum Amazon paid for the streaming rights, the platform is now contemplating releasing Adipurush within the next week or two. Discussions between Amazon and the film’s makers are ongoing, and it seems likely that Adipurush will soon find its way to the OTT space.
Adipurush, an adaptation of the mythological epic Ramayan, features Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, and Saif Ali Khan as Raavan. The movie, directed and jointly produced by Om Raut, in association with T Series, Retrophiles, and UV Creations, was released in multiple languages on June 16.
