Actress Blames South Film Industry

Avika Gor gained fame as a child actor playing Anandi in the television series “Balika Vadhu.” She has since expanded her career by working in the popular show “Sasural Simar Ka” and venturing into the South Indian film industry.

In a recent interview, Avika shared her perspective on nepotism in the South film industry. Having made her debut in Telugu cinema with “Uyyala Jampala” in 2013, she went on to establish herself through films such as “Lakshmi Raave Maa Intiki,” “Cinema Choopistha Mava,” “Thanu Nenu,” “Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada,” and “Raju Gari Gadhi 3,” among others.

During the interview, when asked about her opinion on Bollywood and South Indian films, she raised the topic of nepotism. Avika stated, “When it comes to star power, the South is all about star power. And when it comes to nepotism, the word we are tired of hearing… the South is all about nepotism. The situation is the same; it’s just that audiences aren’t perceiving it the same way they do in Bollywood. There is a bias towards Hindi films, where we tend to judge everything they produce. This bias has developed over time. As someone who is part of the industry, we also acknowledge that there was a phase when many South Indian films were remade, leading people to think we only copy films.”

Expanding on the issue of nepotism in the South film industry, Avika added, “In the Telugu industry, nepotism is clearly evident. I wonder how people choose not to see it. I think it has been excessively hyped, and I hope that with time, both social media and this issue will calm down.”

Avika Gor is now preparing to make her Bollywood debut in the horror film “1920 Horrors Of The Heart.” Directed by Krishna Bhatt, daughter of filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, the movie is scheduled for release in theaters on June 23.
