Film actor and theatre artist Padma Shri Girish Karnad passed away today in his residence in Bangalore. He is survived by his wife Saraswathi, Son Raghu Karnad and daughter Radha. He is born on 19 May 1938 in Maharashtra. Girish Karnad is a respected film personality, he had written many plays and then entered the film industry. He acted in Hindi and all south Indian languages and is known to Telugu cinema with movies like ‘Rakshakudu’.
Recently, he played key roles in ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’. He was conferred Padma Shri (1974) and Padma Bhushan (1992). He also received National awards for many of his films and many Filmfare awards. He passed away at 81, on June 10 in Bangalore due to poor health.
