He was operated by Dr Ramakanta Panda, a Padmabhushan recipient. At the time, the family members had shared that the condition of Raghurama Raju was stable. However, when sudden complications arose, the family decided to fly him to Singapore for further treatment.

Apart from his ill-health, Raghurama Raju has been in news for his comments against his party YSRCP. He has been labelled a rebel candidate by the party and was also issued a show-cause notice. But that only agitated Raghurama Raju further and he has been making statements on a daily basis on YSRCP.

Ironically, Raghurama Raju happens to be the chairman of the legislative committee in Parliament. Much to his party’s anger, Raghurama Raju has been claiming that he secured the post due to his connections with top BJP leaders. He also claimed that he won the Narsapur seat on his own strength.

Following his tiff with his party, CBI raids were conducted on the properties and house of Raghurama Raju for allegedly swindling Rs 826.17 crore from a consortium of banks led by Punjab National Bank. The Narsapur parliament member happens to be the chairman of Ind-Barath Thermal Power Limited, which is now under the radar of CBI.
